A beloved son, brother, friend, and Marine, Joseph “Joe Joe” Forrest Paschall Jr. was a friend to many and a stranger to none. 

Joe Joe is my hero because he was a great Marine.  As a highly decorated Staff Sergeant with the 2d Reconnaissance Battalion at Camp LeJeune, he was the best of the best.  He is also my hero because he was a great son, brother, and all-around goofy and lovable guy, a friend to many and stranger to none.  As I remember lending teenage Joe Joe an Avatar the Last Airbender DVD when he was grounded by his father on an annual beach trip to Murrells Inlet SC, I realize that he was our real life Sokka.
